The town of Mooresville, located just 15 minutes
from the capital city of Indianapolis in the northeast corner of
Morgan County, is the birthplace of the Indiana state flag. Created
with a torch and 19 stars representing Indiana’s standing
as the 19th state of the Union, Mooresville has created a mini park
dedicated to Paul Hadley, the flag’s designer.
While residents have worked diligently over the years to preserve
Mooresville’s place in Indiana history, town leaders continue
to focus on the future. The town’s population has nearly doubled
since 1990, and the new residential subdivision growth indicates
that Mooresville will see population increases in the coming years.
Mooresville has more than 125 acres of parks with a variety of programs
for all age groups, an outstanding school system, and a major expansion
of the public library.
Many of Mooresville’s residents are employed in Indianapolis,
although there are service-related companies, as well as commercial,
retail and industrial employers located in the town. Commuters travel
to Indianapolis along the well-paved State Road 67, State Road 267
and I-70.
Mooresville has easy access to Indianapolis International Airport,
which will open a new $1 billion midfield terminal in 2008 bringing
the airport even closer to the area. The expansion will bring the
gate total for passenger planes to 40 and position Indianapolis
International Airport as the 42nd largest airport in the country
for passenger travel.
Industrial parks in the Mooresville have direct access to the airport
providing a critical link to anywhere in the world for business
and pleasure travelers.
The proximity to the airport also gives Mooresville access to the
second largest Federal Express location, which is in the middle
of a $162 million expansion, adding 600,000 square feet to the facility.
